Why the fascination with cars? I remember as a boy growing up in the small town of Lee MA anticipating the new cars coming out in September, they always introduced new cars at the same time each year. My friends and I would go to the local dealerships up the street and sit in all the new models. I’ll never figure out why they let us do that as we were only 10 or 11. I guess they figured we would talk our parents into buying a new car, which we really tried to do. Our favorite dealer was the Ford Dealership on Franklin St. The Chrysler & Chevy Dealership were not as friendly or maybe being a little farther away we didn’t go there as often. My folks bought Chrysler products and my Aunt May who lived with us had a Chevy. We always dreamed of having the hot cars and knew all the specs of the latest offerings. I remember my sister dated a guy from NJ who with his friend drove their Corvettes up to our house. She must have been hot for guys to drive that far. I never got a ride but really liked looking at them.
I never got to buy the hot car that everyone liked to look at. I had a Ford Bronco back in the 80’s that was decked out and really looked good. Everyone loved to look at that car but it was the worst car I ever owned. It would literally stop running at any time and even the Dealer couldn’t figure out why. It was a happy day when I saw someone driving it away for good. Now I look for reliable low maintenance cars, they all break though. Just ask my friend Mike, I suspect he does well fixing all the other peoples unreliable vehicles.
I’m sure everyone has some good car stories and Cars by Pixar was my favorite Pixar movie. So here are some shots I took at the recent Barrett Jackson Car Auction. The Bat Mobile sold for over 4 million and it was a blast to go back in time and look at all the wonderful automobiles.
