Shooting some Macro

photocrati gallery

My friend Karen Pence let me borrow her Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro lens the other day. So I had to find some good subjects to shoot and what is better than Flowers and what better place to find them than the Botanical Gardens in Phoenix. The thing that I learned about the lens was that it is very sharp and exact, so any wind or movement would turn into a blurry mess. It can be hand held but I need to shoot in Burst mode to get a chance at getting the shot I want from very close.  I needed to stop up the lens to F32 to create some sort of depth of field. To give you an  idea a shot taken from 2 feet away would only give me a .12 foot focus. With some math, some practice a tripod and you get the idea. I was able to get some good shots and I have to say the lens is really good. Now I have to save some money so I can own my own.
