It has been said that if you want to be a landscape photographer than the best place to be is Arizona. Although I am not of fan of the heat we have here in Phoenix, I have to admit we have some beautiful places to visit. One of the best is the Grand Canyon. It is a pretty good jaunt with a round trip from Phoenix being about 460 miles and although some people do it in a day, I would rather find a local Motel and spend a night so I can be there for sunrise and sunset. The best time of year for photography is late summer because of the cloudy skies. The rest of the year is mostly blue skys and no clouds. Winter is another good time to get there as the snow cover makes great photographs.
In the summer months the crowds are large. They do have an excellent bus system to get people around to the multiple overlooks along the south rim. People come from all over the world and you will hear every language under the sun. Lots of European visitors along with every other continent being represented. People watching is at it’s best and everyone has a camera. So if you are visiting Arizona you should put it near the top of your list.
