A New Year

It has been a while since I’ve posted to the blog and although it is on my New Years Resolution to post more in 2014, I’m off to a slow start. At the end of every year I sit down and go over what I want to accomplish in my life over the next 12 months. One was to clean up my Lightroom Catalog of photos so that they are key worded and organized in a sensible manner. I have over 80 thousand digital photos going back to 2000. So that will be a year long project but I have an organized plan in place and I’ve got a good start on it. I’ve been spending a lot of time this past month setting up the structure to get that accomplished. Another goal is to post every week. I’m 3 weeks into the month and this is my first. Maybe I’ll add an extra 3 posts over the next few months.

Winter is the time to shoot birds in the Southwest. We have a few places that are excellent with lots of variety of big and small birds. I always liked photographing birds but never new there names. A good birder can tell what kind of bird it is and even knows what they sound like sight unseen. I have decided that it is time to gather some knowledge about what these beautiful creatures are called. My friend Shirley lead me to a wonderful site for identifying birds. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology ALL ABOUT BIRDS. So over time maybe I’ll know the difference between an Egret and a Duck.

One other resolution that is always on everyones list is to get in better shape. This photo shows that I do occasionally hike and this hike was to Weavers Needle on the Lost Dutchman’s Trail in the Superstition Mountains. Sunset makes for a great photo but a dark hike back out to the car.
